8 Ways To Have An Entertaining Night In For Free

James - Friday, 08 March 2019

In this blog post are some great ways to make your night's in a bit more entertaining.  Hopefully it includes something you haven't tried before.  It's always fun trying something new.  And it's even better when it doesn't cost you a penny.

1. Binge on some box sets or watch a movie

Thousands of TV shows & popular movies are available for you to watch tonight on Amazon Prime Video including:

  • The Neon Demon
  • mother!
  • Crank 2: High Voltage
  • Like Me
  • After the Storm

Amazon also produce their own shows too. You can enjoy lots of exclusively content on Prime Video which is handy when you’ve already watched your favourite shows. Some of these exclusive programs are:

  • The Grand Tour
  • Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan
  • Homecoming starring Julia Roberts
  • The Man in the High Castle from Executive Producer Ridley Scott

Oh ya, you can start a new series tonight as Amazon give a 30 day free trial. So you can enjoy not one entertaining night but thirty! You can cancel the membership anytime so add it into your calendar as a reminder, at it is easy to get carried away watching boxsets on Prime Video.

You also get FREE One-Day Delivery on millions of items too. Which I’ve found handy more times than once. Very good for those last minute presents.

2. Host a “bingo night”

This is my favourite one. Amazingly you can go to Super Free Bingo and get £5 FREE - no deposit needed.

You no longer need to go to a bingo hall to experience the thrill. Grab a cup of hot choc choc, get your comfy clothes on, and sign up to get started. The best thing about free bingo is you don’t need to have any experience at all. Most of the bingo sites give you some bonuses so you can get started straight away without any risk to your back pocket.

Usually you only need to give minimal details to get started which makes sign up quick and easy. Nearly all of the bingo sites are mobile friendly so you can get started immediately.

After you have spent that first £5 free via Super Free Bingo then we have a few more on Funky Freebies' for you to choose from.

3. Read a free eBook

If bingeing on box sets or listening to the classics is not your thing, then maybe read a free eBook tonight. There are plenty of sites that give away eBooks for free:

  • Amazon free eBooks (our favourite as you can download their free kindle reader on your mobile or tablet)
  • WHSmiths free eBooks (you can download a third party app called Kobo)
  • BookBub (one I've not heard of before but looks good)

Why can you get free eBooks?

Companies such as Amazon promote free eBooks from publishers so you try out their platform. There was a shift in 2007 when Amazon released the first Kindle. Since then eBooks have risen in popularity with Amazon now launching their latest version, the Paperwhite.

4. Complete some interesting surveys (and get rewarded)

Some of the headlines that YouGov publish are quite interesting:

  • Survey reveals just one in 14 would get down to business on the first meet - The Sun
  • Britain's got a favourite out of Ant and Dec - The Mirror
  • Research finds UK's most popular way to pronounce scone - ITV
  • Majority of Brits like pineapple on pizza - The Telegraph
  • Harry Potter anniversary: Britain is a nation of Hufflepuffs - Metro

And with interesting headlines, comes interesting surveys. These surveys aren't just the usual "tick, tick, tick", they are on relevance topics and you feel like you're part of the news.

Surveys are always anonymous and voluntary so you don’t need to worry if you sign up and then get bored.

Plus the best bit about this Freebie is that you actually earn rewards and money for doing it.

There are plenty to choose from

  • MOBROG pay betwen £0.50 and £3 for a survey - there site can be a bit glitchy though but they do have an App you can download.
  • YouGov has more than 6 million global members and regularly influence the news.
  • Green Pantheral give a welcome balance of £3. Reward cash out is via pay pal and can take several days.
  • Panel Opinion has a low cash out of £10. Other survey sites sometimes make you wait a while but Panel Opinion will let you cash out when you reach £10 (via BACS, PayPal or Bank cheque).

All of the above are completely free to join so you might want to test them out to see which one you like.

5. Have a laugh playing "bored" games

Board games doesn't need to be boring. Dust off those board games and invite people round for a free night in.

Most big brand board games have plenty of alternative rules, some come straight from the manufacturer and can be seen in the official rules, others come from the community.

Take monopoly for instance which has been round for over 75 years, a quick search on the internet reveals brand new ways of playing:

If you don't own any board games or you've overplayed yours, then look to friends and family members. If that fails then sometimes Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree have free or heavily discounted games available.

6. Rave or reminisce about those 80’s classics

With 50 million songs you can turn the TV off, the music up and put on some classics.

Apple music lets you start for free, with an amazing three-month free trial. No commitment. Cancel anytime. You can even share what you are listening to with your friends or family.

Future Learn has a broad range of categories to choice from:

You can start a course this evening and then carry on with it when have another quiet night.

8. Listen to some podcasts

Podcasts are nearly always free and provides endless hours of entertainment.

I would recommend starting at RadioPublic as it is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The great thing about RadioPublic is it doesn't require an app and you can download episodes for listening offline. It has many other great features like add private RSS feeds (not all apps allow this), import & export using OPML, and tons more.

You may even already have podcasts on your mobile already! Spotify, Deezer and the BBC are just a few big companies that have got into the podcast game.

The Guardian has a great article to get you started - The 50 podcasts you need to hear

Bonus: Don't stay in! Geocache

People have hidden items across the world with over 8,000 items alone hidden in London. You need to use your mobile to find the items. It's basically a huge treasure hunt and is great for both kids and adults.

Install the Geocaching app and get searching for "caches".  Oh, did I mention that it is free!
